The setup path from zero to first competition entry involves four steps: install, secure, fund, and send. Each step takes minutes. Getting each one correct once is the prerequisite for every subsequent on-chain transaction, regardless of what those transactions are for.
Trust Wallet is non-custodial — the private keys are generated on your device and the seed phrase is yours. This means Trust Wallet cannot recover your access if the seed phrase is lost. It also means the Bitcoin address the wallet generates is controlled only by you: no exchange, no platform, and no third party can authorize transactions from it.
Trust Wallet supports many blockchain networks and token types under one interface. Seed phrase generation — Trust Wallet generates a 12-word BIP-39 seed phrase during wallet creation, displayed once. This seed phrase is the complete cryptographic backup of the wallet. Every Bitcoin address the wallet generates is derivable from this phrase. Losing the phrase means losing permanent access to all funds held at wallet addresses with no recovery option.
Non-custodial architecture — Trust Wallet does not store private keys or seed phrases on its servers. The keys exist only on the user's device. Trust Wallet cannot freeze an account, reverse a transaction, or provide access if the device is lost without the seed phrase.
After installing, choose Create New Wallet. Trust Wallet generates the 12-word seed phrase and displays it once. Once the wallet is set up and secured, navigate to the Bitcoin (BTC) asset in Trust Wallet and tap Receive. The displayed bc1q address is the receive address for any Bitcoin sent to this wallet. Copy it exactly — a single character error produces a different valid address that will receive the funds instead of this wallet. Most wallet interfaces provide a copy-to-clipboard button that eliminates manual transcription; use it. This is the address to provide to an exchange for a withdrawal.

Network mismatch on receive — the most frequent error: sharing a bc1q address but receiving BTC sent on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20 "BTCB"). The funds arrive on a different blockchain and do not appear in the Bitcoin balance. Recovery requires using the same seed phrase in a wallet that supports BEP-20 tokens.
Fee setting — Trust Wallet provides fee tier options (standard, fast, custom). Selecting "slow" or minimum fees during high network congestion can result in transactions pending for hours or days. For time-sensitive on-chain sends, setting a fee in the medium or fast tier relative to current mempool conditions prevents this.
With BTC confirmed in Trust Wallet, the send process for any on-chain destination follows the same path: tap Send from the Bitcoin asset, paste the destination address, set the amount, review the estimated fee, and confirm on the summary screen. The transaction broadcasts to the Bitcoin network after confirmation. Trust Wallet displays the transaction as pending until it achieves the required number of block confirmations — typically one to three, completing within ten to thirty minutes under normal network conditions with an appropriate fee. After the required confirmations, the destination records the transaction as received.
What Changes After the First Round
Setup is a one-time process. After Trust Wallet is installed, the seed phrase is secured, the Bitcoin asset is configured, and the first on-chain send has confirmed, subsequent entries require only three actions: open Trust Wallet, enter the destination address and amount, set a fee, and send. The security decisions — seed phrase storage, device security, network selection — were made during setup. Each subsequent transaction is a single decision about amount and fee relative to current network conditions and competitive context.
